History Of Welcomhotel By ITC Amritsar
Situated on the outskirts of Amritsar, this royal resort is an escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. Spread across 32,374 square metres, the resort is straight out of a history book. Gorgeous architecture, beautiful gardens and vintage decor is what greets you as you enter this magnificent property. As we made our way to Welcomhotel By ITC Hotels in Amritsar, we knew that we were leaving behind 2022 and time travelling back to the 18th century but with a modern twist.
How We Vacayed Like Royalty At Welcomhotel By ITC Hotels In Amritsar!
Having travelled from Chandigarh by road, we reached at the ITC Hotel In Amritsar in about 4 and half hours. What immediately took our breath away was the opulence of the entry to this Raja ki Kothi. The extravagant designing, the rich decor and opulent chandelier at the reception just left us enchanted. The front office team was extremely courteous and while one of us was engaged in check-in formalities, I nestled near the bay window and sipped on my fresh guava juice and soaked in the royal vibes.

After a brief chit-chat with the front office team, we were taken to our room and well, even though the walk to it was long, the photography exhibit on the walls, showcasing the holy Golden Temple kept us hooked. And finally, when we reached our room, we were in for a sweet surprise. A beautifully decorated, cosy space awaited our arrival. The bed was decorated with flower petals and well, the hot water bubble bath with sweet chocolate cake to relish was exactly what we needed after the road trip. We began exploring the amenities and loved everything that was there. Our room overlooked the gorgeous and inviting swimming pool, which we decided to hit in the evening.
With a stocked mini-fridge, a gourmet coffee station and smart TV with all OTT apps for one to truly binge and chill, there was nothing more we desired on our short anniversary trip. Oh, and best part, the room service was available round the clock and for us foodies, it was a dream come true!

Foodgasmic Escapade!
After a good sleep, we woke to sounds of empty stomachs demanding good food, just in time for dinner. But, before dinner, we decided to raid the bar at Welcomhotel by ITC Hotels In Amritsar and well, we weren’t disappointed at all. The cosy lounge with rich decked up walls and a rooftop area was meant for those who love conversations and drinks. And, well, Prinkle loves both of these!
We sat on high-chairs next to the bar and well, couldn’t wait any longer. We ordered a beer and champagne-cocktail with spring rolls to nibble on and voila, in a matter of minutes, we were served all of it. The refreshing cocktail and the crunchy rolls went well together and gave our bellies some respite before we jumped to dinner. The bartender engaged us in an interesting conversation about the Raja Ki Kothi and how ITC Amritsar came into being and we were totally hooked!
Phulkari: Signature Taste Of Punjab
Having enjoyed our drinks and nibbles, we headed straight to ‘Phulkari’, the main restaurant of the hotel where a scrumptious meal was awaiting us. With our tummies wanting something wholesome, we decided to order the delicious Murgh Makhani with Butter Naan. While we comfortably sat and admired the tapestry and the design of the restaurant, we couldn’t help but feel like royalty. The fine china dinnerware was laid out while the chefs were at work in the kitchen. Finally, we saw the server walk in with our mouth-watering meal and oh boy! It looked absolutely delicious. We dug right in. As soon as we tasted the Murgh Makhni, we knew we were in seventh heaven. The luscious gravy took over our taste buds completely and the buttery naan was mouth-melting.
While we relished this bit, I wanted to sink my teeth into something vegetarian as well. So, I ordered Dal Tadka and Steamed Rice and to my surprise, they came in pretty quick. Along came ‘Aam Ka Achaar’ and I couldn’t help but feel at ease, just like at home. The server served a portion of rice and dal to me and I began trying it. In my head, I had a preconceived notion that 5-star kitchens rarely do desi ghar ka khana right. But, I was wrong about ITC Amritsar. Their chef certainly surprised me with the flavourful, wholesome dal. I thoroughly enjoyed a ‘Ghar Ka Dal Chawal’ meal and forgot all about the Kukkad. To end the evening on a sweet note, we ordered the signature Amritsari Kulfa and believe me when I say this, it was absolutely mouth-melting.
All in all, the dinner was absolutely splendid and we couldn’t wait for the next meal, and no points for guessing, it was breakfast.
We walked back to our room after the amazing dinner and our beds seemed to be too inviting to ignore. Next morning, we woke up just in time for the buffet breakfast and walked to Phulkari. What we were not prepared for was the lavish breakfast spread on display. From Indian treats to continental dishes, it was one scrumptious spread. We dug right in and relished the Amritsari Kulcha with Cholle. And, to our surprise, it was absolutely authentic, just like the one served in the oldest dhabas of Amritsar. To end things on a sweet note, we proceeded to enjoy Danish pastry next with a cup of black coffee. We were so full that the walk back to our room seemed way too long. But, when we finally made it, the bed was too inviting and we decided to heed its call for a nap.
Relaxation 101 & A Special Surprise!
While we napped all afternoon, in the evening we decided to go for a swim. The inviting waters of the pool at ITC Amritsar will certainly reel you in. We headed to the Spa’s changing room to don our swimsuits and then jumped right in. Frolicking a bit with water, splashing it onto each other’s faces, we spent the next hour enjoying and relaxing. We ordered a refreshing mocktail by the pool and the staff was courteous to accommodate the request.
Another hour went by in the pool before we finally decided to change and leave for dinner. Ahh! The Dinner….at ITC Amritsar’s signature restaurant, Kebabs and Kurries!
As we climbed up the royal staircase, we couldn’t help but soak in the opulence of this majestic property. Our table was reserved and to our surprise, the hotel had arranged a special surprise cake for our anniversary with a bouquet of flowers. It was the sweetest surprise and left us overwhelmed with emotion. We nestled comfortably at our table and began by celebrating with the cake. The servers helped us by clicking lovely photos and capturing our little celebration. Truly, a sweet experience to cherish.
Coming back to Kebabs and Kurries, the signature restaurant at Welcomhotel by ITC Hotels In Amritsar is lavish, opulent and truly celebrates the Punjabi and Mughlai cuisine like never before. To kick things off, we ordered Chicken Tikka and Mutton Galouti Kebab with Ulta Tawa Paratha. While we waited, we spent some precious moments whispering sweet nothings to each other. As soon as the starters arrived, we forgot all about our anniversary and focused all our attention on the mouth-watering treats in front of us. The Chicken Tikka was all about flavour of the Punjabi homeland and the green chutney was the ultimate complement with it. But, the star of the evening was the Mutton Galouti Kebab. The chewy, juicy and spicy Kebab with the Paratha was just mind-blowing. Truly, as a Punjabi, I shouted ‘Nazaara Hi Liyata’.
Our gourmet escapade didn’t just stop there. We went on to order ITC’s signature Dal Bukhara with Butter Naan and held our breaths until it arrived. As we broke bread and dipped it in the much-talked about Dal Bukhara, our mouths were salivating. Once we tasted it, we knew heaven. The most luscious, delicious and absolutely gob-smacking Dal you’ll ever have in your life, is what Dal Bukhara is all about. It lives up to the hype and is something every foodie must try once in their life.
The dinner at Kebabs and Kurries was probably the best meal of our lives till date and we remain indebted to the ITC staff for arranging a special evening.
The next few days, we relished every treat both Phulkari and Kebabs and Kurries had to offer along with spending time at the pool and spa to relax ourselves completely. Honestly, there just aren’t enough words to describe how amazing it was.
All in All, WelcomHotel by ITC Amritsar is all about ‘living life, king size’, quite literally and one has to experience it to believe it. Trust us! It’s worth it in the end. So, don’t forget to tag us in your pictures if you visit this amazing property!
