Queen Charlotte A Bridgerton Story Review

The Bridgerton Series By Shonda Rhimes has been a favourite for a while among Netflix enthusiasts. Naturally, when a prequel, Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story hit the platform, fans were left excited. The show was released in the first week of May on Netflix and well, in just a week is on track to becoming one of the most-watched shows on Netflix.

And, today we’ll tell you why. We watched Queen Charlotte’s story and here are 5 reasons why you need to binge it this weekend!

1. Queen Charlotte And King George’s perfectly imperfect love story!

The creator Shonda Rhimes nails perfectly the switch between two timelines in the life of Queen Charlotte. One is in 1761 when she’s a young woman who is betrothed to get married to the King Of England without knowing him. And, the other is in 1876 when she’s a ruling monarch with 13 children waiting to get an heir to the throne from one of them after her only grandchild passes away.

A beautiful love story!

And in both phases, the creators of Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story capture her love for King George and vice versa in the most beautiful way. Charlotte and George’s love story is interesting and beautifully complex. We get to see drama around race, the mental illness of the King, the complexities of the monarchy, the politics of the royal family and much more in the backdrop of a sweet love story between a boy who thinks he is inadequate and a girl who thinks, they can conquer anything together. This perfectly captured imperfection of love is what makes Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story a must-watch!

2. Glorification of Love Of Every Kind!

Lady Danbury And Viscountess Violet Bridgerton!

The creators of the prequel, very cleverly distract the viewers from King George and Queen Charlotte’s love story by offering them other tiny tales of love around them. Be it an affair between widows Lady Danbury and Viscount Bridgerton’s father or a steamy romance between Queen’s secretary Brimsley with King’s assistant Reynolds, each of the tales glorifies love in its uniqueness. And, well, who doesn’t want to watch more mushy romance?

3. Highlighting How A Ruler Can Bring A Change For Generations!

One of the constant conversations we hear and see on Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story is about race. Queen Charlotte is not a quintessential British beauty, instead is a woman of colour who is chosen to be the Queen as a part of a ‘Great Experiment’. And, in order to make the new monarch, who is a woman of colour, feel more welcome, King’s mother Augusta and parliamentary folks including Lord Bute, go to great lengths.

A Courageous Queen!

But, it is when Charlotte is reminded by Lady Danbury that whatever she does as a monarch would make a difference to everyone of colour in the town, the Queen really understands her impact as a ruler. And, post it involves the king to make changes that would elevate the position of people of colour in the eyes of others for generations to come. With this, the creators highlight how a ruler can make a difference if they want to!

4. The Mesmerising Music and Meaningful Dialogues!

Recreating the British era on screen is quite a daunting task and what often gets ignored in such shows is the music. But, you won’t be disappointed in this regard when you watch Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story. The sounds of the vintage piano playing a romantic song or the sounds of violins as background score mesmerises you to the core.
