P and I have a shared love for watching content related to home decor and design ideas. While we might lack the knowledge to design a home, watching such content on Netflix, YouTube and other platforms keeps us entertained. So naturally, when ‘Hack My Home’ dropped on Netflix, we were excited to enter the space we both love.
We binged this 7-episode show in one go and well, here’s our review of ‘Hack My Home’!
Hack My Home Summary: Design Wizards Come Up With Genius Solutions For Homes!
Let me give you a background about the show. ‘Hack My Home’ on Netflix is a show about 4 design ninjas, Ati Williams, Mikel Welch, Jessica Banks and Brooks Atwood. They come up with genius solutions to solve space and decor issues at homes in Atlanta, Georgia. We see them use architectural knowledge, engineering, physics, decor codes and much more to have fun with the housing problem brought to them. They tack the home issue and turn it into a beautiful and functional space at the same time. The families featured on the show are mostly struggling with space and functionality issues in their homes. They’re in need of expert guidance and that is where these 4 design ninjas come in.

Hack My Home Review: Design Marvels Delivered With Loads Of Emotion & Drama
Okay. Let me be honest. Right from the first episode, I was hooked to ‘Hack My Home’. The reason behind this is that I’ve always been someone who loves ‘Jugaads’. More often than not, I try to come up with ways to fix whatever issues I may be facing with my home. So, the show instantly clicked due to the relatability factor.
The show featured these 4 design ninjas with different personalities who brought something different to the table each time. Ati mostly focused on architecture and design, while Brooks always came up with the most mind-blowing and creative hacks. Jessica brought her knowledge about engineering to the table while Mikel ensured that everything looks stylish and good at the end. Together, this team was perfect to customise solutions for homes that had functionality issues, space problems and structural design flaws.
And, while they were coming up with solutions, they ensured that the heart of the home was always given enough value. They listened to the problems of the families in depth and asked them what they were looking for in their redesigned space. They even understood the reasons behind the families not being able to come up with solutions on their own and respected that. This is one of the major reasons that I was drawn to this show.
‘Hack My Home’ isn’t just another show about giving someone’s house a makeover. It was actually about those emotions attached to parents not being able to provide for their kids in the way they want. Be it in terms of personal space or just a safe place to play, the problems faced by the families are genuine and relatable. Honestly, that is why ‘Hack My Home’ clicked with me in one go.

Each episode has a touch of emotions that you’ll instantly feel when the design ninjas meet the families. And, what’s even more adorable is how Mikel, Brooks, Ati and Jessica bond with the families and their kids. Once they do, they create functional spaces for the families that are not just for their present but also for their future. We even see them involve kids in a few episodes to create customised elements for their homes, making them a part of the solution. This is something we’ve never seen before on any home makeover and design shows.
To sum it up, Hack My Home is a show that has drama, emotions, intelligence and most of all, it showcases how even the smallest of spaces in one’s home hold value and can be utilised in the most functional way. While some of the modern and electronic solutions by Brooks, Ati, Mikel and Jessica blow your mind away, it is the emotional reaction of the families to the final result that leaves you feeling satiated as a viewer in the end.
Prinkled’s Parting Thoughts:
Watch ‘Hack My Home’ on Netflix if you want to see something cool, mind-blowing and creative. It’s quick watch with each episode being just a little over 30 minutes and well, very entertaining as well.
