P and I love travelling whenever we get the chance. If it were up to us, we’d be jetting off every 2-3 months. Alas, we have responsibilities that keep us grounded. Nevertheless, a few months ago, we embarked on a trip to Solan that turned out to be incredibly memorable. I’ve already shared our experience about that journey, but one delightful aspect remained untold until now – the extraordinary breakfast we enjoyed in Shimla, thanks to P’s thoughtful arrangements at none other than The Oberoi Cecil Shimla, one of the most luxurious hotels nestled in the hills.
Today, we’re thrilled to share our heartwarming experience from that unforgettable breakfast at The Oberoi Cecil Shimla. Without any more delays, let’s dive right in, shall we?
The Oberoi Cecil Shimla: Where Serenity and Luxury Harmonize For An Unforgettable Experience
During our trip to Solan, one morning, P woke me up pretty early and asked me to get dressed as he wanted to take me for a breakfast date. I woke up thinking it must be at a pretty café in Kasauli, considering it was just a few miles away. I got all decked up for breakfast, as for us, it is the most favourite meal of the day. I was completely unaware of the surprise I was in for. P, on the other hand, was all set to drive to The Oberoi Cecil Shimla and surprise me.

As we began driving, I noticed we weren’t taking the usual route to Kasauli. I asked P, “Where were we going?” and he said, “It’s a surprise. Don’t ask.” The anticipation grew with each passing mile, and my heart filled with excitement. After around 2 hours of driving, we arrived in Shimla. The scenery was breathtaking, but I couldn’t shake the mystery of our destination. Then, at a turning point, it became clear – we were headed to The Oberoi Cecil Shimla for breakfast. My jaw dropped in amazement, and a beaming smile stretched across my face.
As P pulled up in front of the hotel, a valet swiftly took our car, and with eager anticipation, we stepped out. The moment we crossed the entryway, a sense of wonder washed over us as a whole new world beckoned. The sight that greeted us was nothing short of majestic – a sprawling heritage-style lobby, a testament to the timeless elegance of The Oberoi Cecil, dating back to the British era. It was as if history and luxury had woven themselves together to create this captivating space.
With every step we took, we couldn’t help but immerse ourselves in the opulence around us. The floors adorned with rich wooden craftsmanship exuded a sense of grandeur, while exquisite flower vases added a touch of grace to the surroundings.
Just as I thought the experience couldn’t get any better, a friendly front-office executive appeared and led us to the vintage lifts, adding an air of nostalgia to the adventure. I couldn’t wait to see where this captivating journey would take us next – a delightful breakfast at The Restaurant.
A Breakfast To Remember: Remarkable View, Great Spread & Warm Hospitality!
As we stepped into the restaurant, we were in awe of it. We couldn’t help but notice how beautifully it was designed to give patrons access to the gorgeous view of the Himalayas. With vintage wooden fireplaces interspersed in the walls, stunning chandeliers, and high wooden ceilings, The Restaurant certainly impressed us. Our table was booked near one of the windows giving us complete access to the panoramic view of the glorious Himalayas. I stood near the window and admired the splendour of the Shimla hills. On the other hand, P went ahead to check out the breakfast buffet spread.

The servers quickly began setting our table, and before we knew it, it had all the condiments we’d need with our meal. The inviting aroma of butter, coffee, freshly baked Danish pastries, and more delicious treats spread across the restaurant. I sat at my designated spot looking out the window, and P came back with a plate full of fresh fruits, croissants, and baby samosas for the both of us. I, on the other hand, asked our server to get me a cup of Masala tea and coffee for P.
We began our breakfast feast with fresh fruits and slowly dug into the crunchy yet buttery croissant. The servers brought us our beverages, and we dug into the baby samosas with them. I went ahead and ordered myself Poori Bhaji while P asked for a plain dosa. We chatted over chai-coffee and samosas and were in awe of the heritage that was preserved so well at The Oberoi Cecil. The guests, mostly foreigners, greeted us with a smile as they walked by our table to head over to the buffet spread. It was delightful to see how strangers from another land didn’t hesitate to smile at us, almost as if wishing us a great time. It left us feeling warm and fuzzy.
In another 10 minutes, our mains were brought to us by a friendly server, who also was alert enough to notice how our coffee and tea were over and brought another round for us. The food looked so appealing that P had to stop me from digging right in and reminded me to take a picture for our Prinkled Fam! I quickly did the deed, and then, without any more delay, began devouring the Poori Bhaji. I loved every bite of it. The aloo bhaji was seasoned well with spices while the Pooris were soft and fluffy. P too indulged in a bite or two and loved it.
The plain dosa was served with delicious sambar and three beautifully plated chutneys. It tasted divine with the Sambar, which was packed with a whole lot of flavours from down South. The chutneys added that extra layer of zing that was needed with the plain dosa. The coffee and tea were great accompaniments to our mains, and we thoroughly enjoyed our breakfast.
Now, while we were full, we decided that this special breakfast had to end on a sweet note. We didn’t want any desserts, so we thought of an alternative. We asked our server for pancakes with fruit and maple syrup. I took a small walk outside the restaurant while pancakes were being readied. I noticed the stunning vintage artwork that adorned the wooden walls of The Oberoi Cecil Shimla. It was like history was being preserved in the most stylish way possible at this heritage luxury hotel. I was lost in thought when P called me for pancakes and headed inside. When I saw the pancakes, I was delighted. And when I tasted them, my inner sweet lover was satisfied. Both of us devoured them in less than 10 minutes, and it was a sugary end to this breakfast surprise.
On our way back to the front door, we took the stairs and walked through the opulently decorated hallways. Carpeted wooden floors with vintage artwork on walls and carefully preserved history is what The Oberoi Cecil Shimla was all about. We checked out the well-stocked library that had a vintage vibe and even the kids’ play area. We also got a chance to check out their indoor heated swimming pool and, well, all I could think of was taking a dip. But, with a promise to be back for a vacation, we walked back to our car and ended our breakfast date at this heritage luxury resort in the Himalayas. What a luxurious yet nostalgic
